So I’ve decided what to wear to the party, thanks to Nikki and her fantastic selection of kinky clothes! I get to wear my favorite dress and corset — now to beg, borrow, or steal some hot shoes to go with it! I already raided W’s closet and snagged all her clothes that I like. It still shocks and amazes me when I wear her little clothes — one pair of jeans is a size 1 and the rest are size 2. My original goal was to be a size 6, so I think I’ve exceeded my own expectations. Yet, as far as my actual weight goal I have lost 140 lbs., I have 20 more lbs. to lose. Maybe I’ll end up a size 0.
Today is all about wrapping up loose ends and packing. I have to get a manicure today, can’t exactly go to NYC without that! I’m a little nervous about the whole trip, mostly just because these are women I’ve admired since the very first words I wrote on my blog! I think it will be a blast.
I really like traveling. I’m one of those people who actually arrives at the airport two hours early so I can sit and observe people, work on my laptop, read a book, listen to my iPod… it’s an oddly soothing place to me. I have always enjoyed airports for some reason, I love to go in the stupid little stores and look at all the ridiculous crap they try to sell. As the survivor of a fatal helicopter crash, I figure my odds of crashing twice in my lifetime are pretty fucking low. I feel like the lucky charm on the airplane. :-)
So back to packing. Where is that strap on?

If you are curious to see what I look like these days, I posted a picture of myself on BestSexBloggers.com today. Don’t be frightened, Dude, it doesn’t show any of my private parts, just the shadow of my lovely bum.
I had quite the experience at Wal-Mart today. I finally had to get my glasses replaced. If you aren’t aware of it, they are presently held together by a bungeeish cord that is kind of rainbow pattern, like a kid’s shoelace almost. Yes, it’s quite sexy. I tend to try to avoid wearing them in public, but since I can’t see much without them, that is difficult. I generally depend on M to order for me when we eat out, since I can’t see the menu. Besides, I like it that he orders for me. Yes, I’m a feminist damnit. I still like it when M orders for us both.
I digress… I was at Wal-Mart today to have an eye exam and get new glasses. Now I have to wait a week for them since I have coke bottle lens prescriptions that have to be special made. Um, did I mention I’m a nerd? So I went for the classic black, square frame, plastic frames. I think they’ll be perfect. Hey, at least The Dude will stop telling me that I look like a Mom who is about ready to do the 5k Fun Run.
Over on CatalinaLoves.com today you’ll find my latest rave about Liberator products. I wrote a review of the Fascinator Throe and it is a great product. The nice thing about reviewing for really great companies like Lelo.com and Liberator.com is that their products are so good it makes it unbelievably easy to write a review. All I have to do is open my mouth (metaphorically speaking) and out pours the praise. You just can’t go wrong with either company!
And that’s about it. I have to work on Fetlife projects the rest of the evening and then I’m going to watch some tv and go to bed. Tomorrow, Nikki is coming over to work with me on some projects I’m going to be handing off to her for Quid Pro Quo. As we grow, we need to grow, so Nikki is officially coming on board to work with Satine Phoenix. After that I’m going out for my regular Friday night in Uptown with M. Not sure where we’re going yet, but there isn’t a place he would choose that isn’t going to be fantastic. I kind of like that element of surprise actually, all I know is how to dress and to be there at 8pm. The rest is unknown.

One of my favorite students from years ago contacted me today - he’s in college now and he’s getting his life together, or at least trying to. I love that kid. He was one of “my” kids. I worked in a boarding school, so the kids naturally gravitated towards the faculty homes where they felt comfortable, and that meant that Jack was at our house a lot! It’s neat to see kids turn into adults. I will miss that about teaching, though I won’t miss teaching. He knew me at 270 lbs., so he saw my new pics and said, “You should be a model!” Funny kid - tomorrow I’m doing a set of art nudes with Nikki and Friday a wedding set with a new photographer. So I guess he’s right! I saw his pics and couldn’t believe that the kid I knew has turned into a man. Weird.
Other interesting things: Violet Blue is joining the BestSexBloggers.com blog. I’m pretty excited about that and owe it all to Lochai, who again has brought me closer yet into his circle. I am very fortunate to have Lochai in my life, even if he is 3 time zones away!
Also of interest: Vladimir Putin is putting out a new Judo DVD. I mention this because Vladimir Putin is on my list of Men I’d Like To Fuck. Yes, I know he’s kind of evil. But he’s also really powerful and that turns me on. He did drop a couple of points in the ranks when he shot a tiger, but even that won’t stop me from wanting to fuck Vlad (and he said he only shot that perfect big kitty because he was protecting the camera crew).
I’m trying to get together an airline ticket to make it to the NYC Sex Blogger 2009 Calendar party on November 14th. I don’t know how it’s going to happen, but I’m really trying to make it happen. I want to hang out with my NYC Blogger friends! I am planning to go to Frolicon in April, but that’s a ways off and the weekend after that is Sex 2.0 in DC. I am planning to carpool with Ellie and Jay and with any luck, we’ll share a room ;-)
Well, it’s time for me to jump in the shower and put on my MILFtastic look. W has a volleyball game today at her school and I plan to be there looking fabulous.

Today was an interesting day. It was supposed to go like this: Fetish Fair Fleamarket, yoga with Susan and The Dude, and then home for an evening with or without Ellie and J, depending on whether or not they attend Purgatory tonight. We figured it made sense for us to try to go on behalf of Quid Pro Quo, good PR for our own PR company. Here’s how it went: I drove to South Carolina to pick up W from a sleepover, canceled yoga with Susan and The Dude, went to the Fetish Flea Market and came home. Ellie and J are still out and about and are thinking about going to Purgatory. I know myself well enough to know that Purgatory isn’t my scene.
It was interesting that at the fetish event there was an entire workshop dedicated to a face-to-face meeting of people from a Fetlife.com group. We didn’t even know that there was a Fetlife centered workshop. We walked through the door, unsure we were in the right place, and introduced ourselves as being a part of Fetlife and sat down to listen to what they had to say. It was neat to hear again and again how Fetlife has become a central part of their lives, a way to keep in touch on a daily basis with their family. It was really quite touching. I came home and told John all about it. He couldn’t believe it, and then he received an email from someone who was at the workshop/meeting who had written to tell him how important Fetlife and how it has really meant a lot to them to have a place to feel at home. Nice! John, you are changing the world!
I found a few nice corsets at the fleamarket, but it was difficult to find my size. Now WTF?! When I was a larger size I couldn’t find a nice corset that fit and now that I am small, I can’t find a corset that fits. Today all the corsets were too big or the few I found that were 22″ were like $500.00. If I’m going to invest that kind of money into a corset it’s going to be custom made for me. Doesn’t it seem to you like someone should make a corset for me so that I can promote the fuck out of their corsetry business? I would work for trade. Hey you corset seamstresses - are you listening? :)
Cleis Press sent me Tristan Taormino’s new book, Opening Up, to review. I have only heard good things about it and as a polyamorous soul married to a monoromantic, an open relationship can be a challenge - so not ony am I looking forward to a good read for the review, but also I am hoping to get something out of it personally. Well, that’s where the best reviews come from, anyway - though a book can be good and still not really be appealing to you.
I dd hear from my NYC friends that they are all getting set for tomorrow’s shoot. No alcohol, strict orders by the photographer will make for a less interesting evening, though if you put those 12 women in the same room, I don’t think it matters, the energy alone would be intoxicating!
Next week’s posts on Catalina Loves are going to be really good, if I do say so myself. I have an interview with Kink.com CEO Peter Acworth, a very good toy review on Tuesday, Lochai starts his new job with Hogtied.com Monday, so there will be lots of Lochai news, there is an interview waiting for me to post from Sgt. Major, who is a Kink.com dom, but also owns his own site: BackdoorBondage.com. I also have to write an interview for Madison Young, who sent me her new movie (w00t!) and hopefully Nikki will have some new images ready for me next week from our photoshoot this week. That’s a lot of good stuff, and that’s off the top of my head, so set make sure you subscribe and get all the goodness that there is.
Alright, enough babble for now. I swear upon all things holy that I will get through my email this weekend. It’s become a huge priority at this point!

You play… you pay. That was what my Mom would say as she punished me as a child. Well, I’m paying in spades. Too much play means I’m way behind on work. Last night
M and I decided at the last minute to go out for drinks, which gave me an excuse to wear my new clothes. Before that I made a trip in to Charlotte for a separate errand. Saturday I went to
yoga with Susan. Basically, I got a blog post or two written and that was it. I have a bajillion emails that I starred in gmail to respond to when I have time. Now I have to devote time to responding or else they just fall off the page. I need to get my ass in gear and work!
Sometimes it’s a fine line between playing and working. Today, for example, I was totally playing, yet I could say it was a long day at work - we did two different sets of suspension bondage shots, a MILFtastic office pic, a sex nerd photo, and a few other product sets for upcoming reviews. So while I was technically working, I feel like I was away at play all day (plus I wasn’t at home). I did come home and review a Madison Young movie I watched recently. Is that work or play? A combination of both, really.
I am really excited to dive into the Better Sex Through Yoga 3 DVD Series
that Garvey sent to me. I reviewed his book a few months ago. In his package he also sent fascinating documentaries and books that I will keep a mystery for now. They are completely unrelated to yoga.
I am re-watching Joseph Campbell’s DVDs, The Power of Myth. If you have never seen it, I highly recommend it. If you have seen it, but it’s been a while, you should re-watch it. I’ve gained so much more from watching it this time. The timing was perfect - I came home from yoga with a sense of being connected to the collective unconscious and present in the moment and watched Joseph Campbell talking about living in the moment and following your bliss. I realize it is exactly what I’ve done. I have taken The Hero’s Journey and this makes me incredibly proud. Slaying dragons. Seriously - (re)watch it.
I’m a weirdo in that I own copies of the Stanford Prison Experiment and the Obedience Experiment and I’ve watched them both with W - it helped her to understand Abu Ghraib and other crimes against humanity. She also taught her art teacher about Fernando Botero’s art exhibit of his interpretation of the Abu Ghraib images. I thought that was kind of cool, actually.
Other things worth noting before abruptly ending this post:
My friend, Tess, is on a “Cleavage of the Day” strike. Until the terms of her demands are met, there will be no boobs. Please, people - for the good of humanity, do whatever it is she asks - we need daily cleavage shots! Tess’ boobs make the day so much easier to greet.

A couple of crazy weeks have passed! It’s nice to be back to normal. W goes back to school on Monday and she’s really excited to finish out her middle school years there. She has had to change schools several times and it would have been such a disruption to her life to have to change schools again this year and then again next year. Her education has benefited, it’s objectively obvious when you look at her transcripts and awards.
Next year she’s likely return to public school. It’s not really an issue of private vs. public school. These three years are the only years she has attended private school and that was due to my faculty tuition discount. I suspect that most parents are paranoid about public school the way that some are about stranger danger, yet if you do your homework you’ll see that your child is safer walking (alone) to and sitting in public school in NYC than they are in a lightning storm and we have lightning storms here almost daily in the summer.
Public schools in North Carolina are terribly underfunded. One of the best things you can do as a parent of a public school student is try to have your child placed in the honors programs. Because W will finish the year at her middle school in honors Algebra 1, Spanish I, Latin, Chemistry, and an advanced English and History curriculum she will benefit in the pubic school system. She has her own goal of attending a private, specialized school for math and science on scholarship her last two years of high school. She is extremely motivated to do well.
Of course, I can’t say this without mentioning how imbalanced the public school curriculum is - for a public school system it still seems to be a very have vs. have nots system. I recognize that this is a Privilege. I also recognize that it’s in my job description as a Mom to do everything I can to give her every advantage that I can in life, while teaching her to be grateful, compassionate, and generous.
Okay, so enough about education and parenting. Life!
The Best Sex Bloggers is doing great - our content is top shelf, the contributors are amazing writers, and the variety isn’t found anywhere else that I know of. Most of the admin stuff is finally done. Our header is up and looks good, we got the image problem fixed, and now we can start adding selected contributors to the project.
I’m going to be helping Audacia Ray with some promo work on some of her new projects, so that’s pretty amazing and exciting.
I’m going to review a movie for Madison Young that she sent to me.
Rachel Kramer Bussel is sending us some books to review for Amazon.com, as well as a copy of Spanked! for us to review. I have another of her books that I am reviewing currently, called Dirty Girls, for Seal Press. I am actually the only person holding me back from being done with that because now that I know her RKB, I want to ask her a few questions about the book before I publish the review and I have been distracted. I’ll have to get back on track with that.
I’m talking with Lucrezia Magazine about writing for them, though since I’m still just talking with them, I don’t have really specific things to mention. I just thought that it’s worth mentioning.
Lelo.com contacted me and asked me to review a product of theirs, so I chose the Luna Beads. I haven’t even had an opportunity to try them out. Yes, I know you can’t imagine, but it’s been a weird couple of weeks. I assure you, I’ll get to work researching them and give you my opinion.
Finally, at least for now, I’ve joined The Femme’s Guide and will post there about some specific topics with some amazing women who are collaborating on the project. It’s a nice opportunity and I appreciate being invited to take part in it.
All of my friends are out of town this weekend. Seriously. M is gone for three weeks traveling in Asia, Mr. F is in Pittsburgh celebrating his birthday, Mr. Johnson is in Colombia, I dropped The Dude at the airport yesterday for his weekend away, and Nikki is at Fetcon, as are Sabrina and Melvin. No wonder I’ve managed to get so much work done today! :)

I am overwhelmed with emotion and at a loss for words at the outpouring of support that people in our community have shown our family by donating prizes for the raffle, buying tickets, cross posting to spread the word, and the kind words that have gotten us through a very difficult time. We are proud to say that our personal need has been met and good (us, the sinners) triumphs over evil (them, the morally superior). To feed off of Graydancer’s post, we have proven that “a community proving that a community of pervs cares more about her education than an administration full of assholes.”
This means that instead of being my personal mission to fight for my daughter, I am on a bigger mission for the greater cause. I recognize that I am not the only person going through this battle. In fact, it’s a series of small battles that are all a part of a greater war on personal freedom, often with children in the crossfire.
This shouldn’t happen, but if you’re living an alternative lifestyle, it very well could happen to you. The only way to combat it is to put on the armor, link up arm-in-arm, and take them on as a commUNITY. That is exactly what I’ve seen in the last few days and I think we can do more!
The raffle continues, as it is scheduled to end on Sunday (8/17/08) at 10pm, but from this point forward, all proceeds will be going to the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom as a contribution from the community that has stood together and won this battle. This is our way of supporting the war that has been waged in the land of the free against personal and sexual freedom. At the end of the year, the refunded monies will also be donated on behalf of this community.
The National Coalition for Sexual Freedom is a national organization committed to creating a political, legal, and social environment in the United States that advances equal rights of consenting adults who practice forms of alternative sexual expression. I’m officially re-launching the “Catalina’s Emergency Tuition Fund Raffle” as the “The Battle Is Won, But the War is Not Over” raffle with all remaining proceeds from this point forward going to NCSF.
Tickets are $10.00 each, you can buy as many as you’d like (if you’d like to donate $50.00, for example, I’ll enter your name 5 times). You are not obligated to buy a virtual ticket. You can also just donate to a very worthy cause at any amount.
I really will write down names and put them in a hat, and my daughter can pick the winners. At this point, she is well-aware of what is going on. We’ll choose the winners on August 17th at 10 pm. You will be notified by 10:30 pm by email. Heck, we’ll even try to find someone to film it and show it to you all :)
